Communicated by the IDF Spokesman's Unit Jerusalem, December 17, 1996 Monitoring Committee for Supervision of Understandings of 26.4.96 The Monitoring Group met on December 16, 1996, at the UNIFIL HQ compound near Naqoura, Lebanon, to consider a complaint by Israel of a violation of the April 26, 1996 Understanding with regard to the launching of Katyusha rockets into Israel from the area of El-Kleila in Lebanon. By unanimity, the Monitoring Group accepted as factual that at least one Katyusha rocket was fired into Isarel from the area of El-Kleila in Lebanon. It noted that this act ran counter to the April 26 Understanding. In the present case, consistent with its commitment to the Understanding and its responsibilities under it, the Government of Lebanon will do its utmost to ensure compliance with the Understanding. The Monitoring Group calls on all those responsible to take appropriate measures to ensure that such acts do not recur. The Monitoring Group expressed its great appreciation to UNIFIL for providing facilities for the meeting.
