Monitoring Committee charges Lebanese Gov't.
with responsibility for 13.12.96 Katyusha attackThe committee in charge of monitoring the understandings which were concluded in the wake of Operation Grapes of Wrath, has charged the Lebanese government with responsibility for the Katyusha rockets which were fired at the western Galilee from the El-Kalila area in southern Lebanon. The committee -- which met yesterday (Tuesday), 16.12.96, in Nakura, Lebanon -- decided that the Lebanese government is bound by the understandings, is responsible for taking action to honor them in the future, so that similar incidents do not recur. During the committee's discussions, the Lebanese delegation attempted to avoid taking responsibility for the incident by claiming that the Katyushas were fired from an area under UNIFIL supervision, but this claim was rejected by the committee.
