Georgian Deputy PM and Speaker of Parliament to Visit

 

Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Zurab Zhvania and Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Zaza Shengelia and other senior figures from the Georgian Republic will make an official visit to Israel, at the invitation of Knesset Speaker Dan Tichon, from Sunday, 29.11.98, to Thursday, 3.12.98. This visit represents an important landmark in the history of Israel-Georgia relations.

In the course of his visit, Mr. Zhvania is expected to meet with Knesset Speaker Tichon, President Ezer Weizman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Moshe Katzav, Sephardi Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert, the Director-General of the Export Institute, and MKs Peres and a-Sanaa.

Mr. Zhvania will also meet with the Israel-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Association, lecture at Hebrew University's Department for Caucasian Studies, visit hi-tech factories and a kibbutz, and meet with the mayor of Ashkelon and the Georgian immigrant community in Ashkelon.
