Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority today (Tuesday) 24.11.98, concluded a three-day working meeting on regional environmental issues held in Amman under American and Japanese aegis.
Among the issues discussed was the problem of flies and mosquitoes that troubles the residents of the Jordan, Arava and Eilat areas. A joint extermination program will begin soon, paid for by the US and Japan, to deal with the problem. Other issues discussed included solid waste, hazardous waste, emergency deployment, environmental planning, environmental legislation and implementation, environmental economics etc.
The United States will budget $200,000 to prepare a program that will be submitted to donor countries in December, so that they will be able to participate in funding environmental programs.
