Tourism Minister Katzav meets PA Tourism Chief
Tourism Minister Moshe Katzav met yesterday evening (Tuesday), 27.10.98, with Palestinian Authority chief official for tourism and archeology and Palestinian Legislature Deputy Speaker Mathri Abu Ita. This was the first meeting with PA officials after a long hiatus.
Minister Katzav said, "Cooperation in the field of tourism must rise above any political arguments, since it contributes much to the economies of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the countries of the region." He added that he hopes that yesterday's meeting will open a new page in relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, especially in the wake of the Wye Memorandum, and that this cooperation will help in the preparations for the large number of tourists expected for the 2000 celebrations.
Mr. Abu Ita briefed Minister Katzav on the Palestinian preparations for 2000, noting that his office is open to cooperation in all matters and that he is hopeful regarding good and productive relations with the Tourism Ministry.
It was decided at the meeting to establish a joint team to discuss all matters of cooperation between the two sides.
