Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman October 29, 1997 A unique seminar in Israel for Young Diplomats from 31 Countries On Thursday, October 30 the Fourth International Seminar for Young Diplomats will begin in Ma'aleh Hahamisha. Organized by the Training and Human Resources Planning Subdepartment of the Foreign Ministry, the seminar will host young diplomats from 31 countries and six continents, including participants from Venezuela, Hungary, Korea, South Africa, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Yugoslavia, Slovakia, the Seyschelle Islands, Bhutan (the Foreign Minister's son), and others. During the three-week seminar, discussions, lectures and tours will be held on the following three topics: 1. Changes in the diplomatic profession towards the 21st century 2. The Middle East and the Arab-Israeli peace process. 3. Problems and challenges facing the State of Israel on the eve of its 50th anniversary. As mentioned, this is the fourth seminar of this kind (the first took place in 1996). The idea originated following a conference of Foreign Ministry Directors-General held in Jerusalem in 1995, entitled "Diplomacy in Transition", which enjoyed great success in the international diplomatic community and led to a decision to hold similar conferences in the future for young diplomats.
