Communicated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Jerusalem, 30 July 1998 Romanian Prime Minister Vasile to Visit Israel   Romanian Prime Minister Radu Vasile will make an official to Israel next week 2-5.8.98, as a guest of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will be accompanied by a number of ministers and Romanian businessmen and journalists. During his visit, Prime Minister Vasile will meet with President Ezer Weizman, Prime Minister Netanyahu, representatives of Romanian immigrants and the Organization for the Restitution of Jewish Property and visit Yad Vashem. Agreements on agriculture and investment protection will be signed. Prime Minister Vasile's visit marks Israel's jubilee and 50 years of Israeli-Romanian diplomatic relations. Romania was the only Communist bloc country never to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, has voted in favor of Israel at the United Nations and other international organizations. Romania played an important role during the peace process with Egypt in the late 1970s, evidence of the open and true friendship between Romania and Israel. Today, over 450,000 people of Romanian origin live in Israel and have integrated socially and economically, forming a bridge between the two countries. At $300 million annually, Israel's trade with Romania is the second largest in Eastern Europe, after Russia, with over 1,500 Israeli-Romanian joint ventures. Prime Minister Vasile's visit will strengthen the relationship between the two countries, since Romania's democratic pro-Western liberal government is one with which Israel has common values.
