Jerusalem, 17 July 1997 PM Netanyahu's response to UN vote
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday (Wednesday), 16.7.97, in response to the UN General Assembly decision on Har Homa: "We will not surrender our sovereignty in Jerusalem." He noted that many countries around the world have -- for many years -- opposed Israel's sovereignty in Jerusalem, but added that Israel has never capitulated to their pressure.
"We will stand [firm] on our sovereignty in Jerusalem, just as we have always known how to do. There are things which are more important than what the world says about us, and Jerusalem is chief among them, and we will not bow to any pressures on this issue," the Prime Minister said.
