PM Netanyahu convenes meeting on immigration of Kwara Jews

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Monday), 14.6.99, convened a meeting to discuss ways of expediting the immigration of the Kwara Jews from Ethiopia. Also attending the meeting were the ministers of foreign affairs, interior, finance and immigrant absorption, as well as the chairman of the Jewish Agency.

A decision was made to appoint Foreign Minister Sharon to coordinate the overall activity for bringing about the speedy arrival of the approximately 3,500 Kwara Jews.

Immigrant Absorption Minister Yuli Edelstein will head an inter-ministerial team for coordinating the absorption of the immigrants in Israel.

In addition, instructions have been issued to house the immigrants in absorption centers and to allocate funds from the budget to finance the effort.

It was also decided at the meeting to dispatch medical aid and food to the Jews in Kwara.
