Meeting on Subject of Murder of Arab Land Dealers

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this morning (Monday), 2.6.97, met with the Defense Minister, the Minister of Public Security and representatives of the police, GSS and security services regarding the issue of the murder of Arab land dealers.

At the meeting, a number of measures in response to the murders were decided upon:

  1. The government will strongly protest the matter to the Palestinian Authority.
  2. Warrants for the arrest of those suspected of involvement in the affair will be issued.
  3. The investigation into the murders will continue, and additional steps will be taken by the police against further attempts at kidnapping and murder.

The Prime Minister ordered the continued monitoring of activities in this field.

In addition, Israel will work in international forums against infringements of human rights by the Palestinian Authority, and against its infringements of the Oslo accords.

The Prime Minister praised the Jerusalem police for their actions yesterday in preventing the abduction of a land dealer in Jerusalem.

The Prime Minister said that he regards the murders of land dealers as an extremely grave development, and the government will do all in its power to combat this phenomenon.
