Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman  Jerusalem, June 20, 2000 Israel and Lithuania Sign Visa Abolition Agreement   Today (June 20), Israel Foreign Minister David Levy and Deputy Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Jusys Oskara together signed a agreement abolishing visas between them. The agreement permits citizens of the two countries to cross each other's borders, and to enter into each other's territory for a stay of up to 90 days without the need for a visa. At the signing, Mr. Levy stated: "Israel-Lithuanian relations are good. We together shoulder a responsibility to continue to develop their potential, in particular in the realm of economic and cultural ties. The visa abolition agreement is a further phase in developing these relations, and will enable the free movement of tourists and businessmen between the states. "The relationship between the two peoples is historic, and the Jewish community of Lithuania was one of the largest in the diaspora. During the Holocaust, almost the entire Lithuanian Jewish community was wiped out, and the few who survived have made Israel their home. "We welcome the Deputy Foreign Minister's visit here in Israel and his participation in this occasion. His visit comes in the wake of the landmark visit of the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, Landsburgis, the founding father of today's independent and democratic Lithuania. We congratulate Lithuania on the progress it has achieved in every realm, and wish it a speedy integration into the institutions of Europe.
