Israeli planes to Join Fly-Past in Honor of King Hussein
Two Israel Air Force fighter planes will today (Tuesday), 19.1.99, escort King Hussein of Jordan's plane in a special salute fly-past, as the monarch passes over the region on his way home to Amman. The decision to make this special gesture was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai.
Two IAF F-16s will escort King Hussein's plane from a distance of 50 miles outside Israel's territorial waters, over Israel and up to the Jordan River.
Defense Minister Mordechai today extended his good wishes to King Hussein in advance of his arrival back in Jordan.
In an interview to Israel Radio's Arabic Service, DM Mordechai said, "I warmly welcome His Majesty King Hussein and express my admiration of him on his return to Jordan. King Hussein is known for his courage, his leadership and his daring in advancing the peace process and the friendship between Israel and Jordan. I would like to wish him long life, good health and to express the hope that his leadership and courage will continue to serve his political path and the Jordanian people."
