European Parliament President to Visit Israel
The President of the European Parliament, Nicole Fontaine, will visit Israel (20-21.2) as part of a tour of the Middle East.
The President of the European Parliament, who was elected to her position in June 1999, will meet with the President of Israel, the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Minister of Regional Cooperation, Minister of the Environment and the Speaker of the Knesset, and will deliver a speech to the Knesset plenary. Fontaine will also visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Memorial and will lay a wreath on the tombstone of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, accompanied by Mrs. Leah Rabin.
A framework of mutual visits and ongoing political dialogue exists between the Knesset/Foreign Ministry and the European Parliament.
