PM Barak meets new US Ambassador Indyk

 

Prime Minister Ehud Barak today (Tuesday) 25.1.2000, met with the new United States Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk.

The two men discussed a series of bilateral issues and the situation of the peace process. The Prime Minister said, "The United States has a unique role in our region, due to its special relations with Israel and because of the honor and trust it has earned on the part of our neighbors. Thanks to its status and the trust in it, the United States can help in the efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East that will reflect the interests of Israel, our neighbors and of the United States. I expect that the United States will continue to guarantee Israel's qualitative advantage and stand alongside us in the effort to achieve a secure future for Israel by means of peace agreements with out neighbors. I am convinced that Ambassador Indyk will play a key role in these issues in the framework of American-Israeli relations."

Ambassador Indyk told the Prime Minister that he was sent by the President and Secretary of State in order to achieve common goals for both countries: Strengthening bilateral relations, increase cooperation and helping the peace process. He emphasized that he considers the special relationship between the two countries to be the cornerstone on the road to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
