PM Barak welcomes Pope's visit

Prime Minister Ehud Barak yesterday (Wednesday) 12.1.2000, welcomed the announcement by Pope John Paul II that he will visit Israel in late March. The Prime Minister noted that he attaches great importance to the visit, both in light of the opportunity to strengthen relations between the Jewish people and the Christian community in the world and because of the positive affect the visit can have on the peace process.

The Prime Minister recognizes the activities of the Pope in the struggle against anti-Semitism and racism and is convinced that his meetings with state leaders and the Chief Rabbis will increase cooperation in this struggle.
